The Academy of Correctional Health
Professionals is the nation's community for correctional health care. Through publications, educational activities and special events, the
Academy works to connect you with peers from across the country. The
Academy provides you with the latest information and knowledge
specifically designed to help you, the correctional health professional.
One of the biggest
challenges that an organization such as the Academy faces is defining
who we are and what we stand for. As our organization has grown since it
was created in 2000, new programs and services have been added to meet
the needs of our members. However, the guiding principles established by
the Academy’s founders have remained constant. Who We Are The Academy is a national, not-for-profit organization that provides
educational and professional development tools to health care
professionals working in the field of correctional health care. Its
mission—to create a professional community for the advancement of
correctional health care—says a lot about the isolation that many who
work in this field often feel. Member benefits such as the mentor program
and shared interest groups were created to alleviate this problem.
What We Stand For As an abiding
expression of what the Academy's members believe, the board of
directors recently adopted a statement of core values. “A statement of values will help guide the Academy’s policies,
decision making and operations as it grows and changes,” said Michael Adu-Tutu,
DDS, MBA, CCHP-A (2005 chair) when he first tasked the board with
developing the statement. Read our Statement of
